Don't let local Conservative candidates hide behind David Cameron's new "green" facade and "liberal conservative" rhetoric.

Here are some of the best stories collected so far.  Submit yours and check back for more as they are collected.

The Tories won control of Hillingdon council last May.  In this year's budget crucial facilities were either cut completely or had their funding reduced (e.g. Hayes Legal Resource Centre, Hillingdon Race Equality Council, and the 'jewel in the crown' Cwm Pennant Outdoor activity Centre in Snowdonia - to save £35k a year). Meanwhile, pay rises of up to 78% were awarded to leading Councillors.  The Leader now gets a Special Responsibility Allowance of £50,753 (up 36.75%); the Deputy Leader £42,753 (up 71%); and members of the Cabinet £35,735 (up 78.76%) and so on.  They also get the basic Member Allowance of £10,100 (up 5.93%).  Alright for some - but not for the children of Hillingdon, or the poor and disadvantaged.

Luckily for me I live in the North-East of England where Tories are relatively rare. However, just in case it's not a site which you visit regularly, I would like to draw your attention to the following: www.publicserviceschallenge.com.

This website publishes the "findings" of a Tory Party/Shadow Cabinet group on Public Service issues. It is relatively little publicised, perhaps because many of the documents are frightening and do not chime with the preferred image of Cameron's Tories (who appear to be doing their best to resemble a policy-free zone). The article "To be ill or not to be ill" struck me as particularly unpleasant. As a professional social researcher I find the whole thing chilling.

I went to an Assembly hustings this week with our candidate, who I'm Agent for. Her Tory opponent, in answering a question on health, included the amazing line "we've given GPs a massive pay-rise, but I'm not sure they've done anything to deserve it". Draw your own conclusion on their true plans for the NHS.

Cllr Nick Colbourne, Wrexham

Tories have been nowhere in Manchester itself for more than a decade. But last year in the City Centre ward a chap called Jake Berry stood. Now selected for Rossendale as PPC. He insisted on his leaflets and his blog that he lived in Manchester, later the "outskirts of Manchester" but in fact he lived beyond Knutsford, the wrong side of the M6 and nearer to Liverpool where he had been a parliamentary agent. If they will lie about where they live, what won't they lie about?

Chris Paul, Manchester

In Camden the Tory/Lib Dem administration has just cut door-to-door recycling to 4000 council homes on value for money grounds.  The programme had been part of a project from the previous Labour administration to establish better recycling on estates.  Instead of door-to-door recycling, local tenants are asked to drop their recyclable waste off at a new central collection point via a council bag.  At a stroke this disadvantages elderly or frail residents and will lead to an increase in fly-tipping.  The very same week that this service was cut, a new service was rolled out in Hampstead and Frognal - some of richest areas in Camden - giving residents extra doorstep recycling. The Camden Tories and their Lib Dem chums are 'green' only in the sense that they bring better services to more affluent streets and take them away from estates.

Cllr Theo Blackwell, Camden

"The Conservatives in Southend are using the slogan 'Vote Blue - Go Green' all over their election material. However their councillors didn't lift a finger to stop developers felling many mature trees in a local park. They want to cut down even more with a pointless and expensive road-widening scheme. To make matters worse, last year they withdrew all bus subsidies, leading to the loss of vital bus routes."

Anne Chalk, Labour candidate for Shoeburyness Ward

Our Tory councillors have just given themselves an 18% rise in
allowances, at the same time as cutting £34m of council services to
the most vulnerable people. The council now refuses to store the
possessions of homeless people while they're in temporary
accommodation - for a saving that is less than half the cost of the
pay rise. The allowance increase will also cost more than they save
from adding over £200 to the cost of meals on wheels.
